Subject: Sunflowers on Woodward
Hello everyone, Sunflowers will be growing on Woodward in the Park District this summer!
Attached is a flyer to kick off our effort to raise funds to fully accomplish this goal. We need to raise a little under $5000 to plant more than 700 sunflowers in several gardens along Woodward Avenue between 6 and 8 mile known as the Park District. The locations are just as you enter Detroit from the Northern suburbs at the base of the overpass in garden areas on both sides and in the middle. “Welcome to Detroit” then again at 7 Mile and Woodward on both the east and west sides. Finally near the park entrance close to 6 mile a garden will welcome visitors to our beautiful Palmer Park. The plants will be grown locally at the nearby Penrose Gardens by “Farmer John” and planted by volunteers including the neighborhood kids from the Growtown Art Garden project in the Penrose area across the street from Palmer Woods. (another exciting project)
We think this is a bold and exciting idea that will make a lasting impression on visitors and bring enjoyment to the nearby residents. Just in the initial discussion we received several contributions. As an added incentive Dale and I have offered to host a cocktail party for donors of $100 or more at Turkel House. Tell your friends, spread the word, and pass long this flyer. Let’s make Woodward bloom. Donations of ANY size are welcome and contributions can also be made online at www.woodwardavenue.org
